Queensland’s R.J Caracella has continued his great form posting a second round 4-under 68 to go along with an opening 67 and will take a one shot lead into Saturday’s final round of the 2015 SIFA Samoa Open.
Queensland’s R.J Caracella has continued his great form posting a second round 4-under 68 to go along with an opening 67 and will take a one shot lead into Saturday’s final round of the 2015 SIFA Samoa Open.
Caracella
carded a remarkable 10-under-par 62 during Wednesday’s pro-am and says he is
feeling comfortable on the tricky Royal Samoan greens.
"I have
played a fair bit in the Pacific and think I know how to play the course now so
if I can make some more putts tomorrow I think I will have a good chance," says
Caracella who last played the Samoa Open in 2008.
New Zealand’s
Nick Gillespie fired the low round of the tournament with a bogey free 9-under
63 to move into contention, one shot back on 136 tied with Mitchell A. Brown
and Andrew Evans.
Local Samoan Professional
and joint overnight leader Malase Maifea posted 1-under 71 and remains in the
top-10 on 138.
Victorian
Michael Barry has taken the outright lead in the Senior Open after a second
round 4-under 68. Barry is in hot form on the E-Z-GO Legends Tour following
three wins in a row on the Tour last month and takes the lead in the event in his
first visit to Samoa.
Barry will
play alongside round one leader and defending champion Richard Backwell who
posted a second round 1-under 71 and is one shot back at 143.
Tournament
Director Patrick Fepuleai posted an even-par-round of 72 on Friday and finds
himself well within the mix for a top-10 in the Senior Open championship.
Saturday’s
final round begins from 8:30am from the first tee with the final group teeing
off at 11:30am.
Royal Samoa
Country Club located in Apia, Samoa is playing host to the tournament for the
first time since 2013.
The Samoa Open
is also being utilised as the final qualifying event for the Samoan national
team which competes in the upcoming Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
