The PGA of Australia and Webex are committed to advancing inclusivity in sport, using innovation and technology to grow the game, and inspire the next generation of golf fans and players. Together they are redefining what’s possible when the world of sport and technology combine, connecting players all year round with mentors, media, fans, and family – wherever, whenever.
Webex partnered with the PGA of Australia on the Webex Player Series, a new, first of its kind, series of tournaments that sees Australia’s leading male and female golf professionals, together with elite amateur junior golfers, compete in the same field for the same prize purse.
The series embraces hybrid sport, bridging in-person interactions with digital connections to deliver a truly blended experience.
Building on the Webex Players Series inclusive format and dedicated to supporting promising and diverse athletes, they looked to create moments that demonstrated this, providing a platform for juniors and the next wave of talent to engage, learn, grow and get guidance from leaders on navigating their future with the sport, via Webex.
We invited two junior rising stars, Abel Eduard and Molly Mclean, to play ‘nearest to the pin’ with some of golf and the sporting world’s biggest stars, Su Oh, LPGA Tour Player and Geoff Ogilvy, 2006 US Open Champion, hosted by two virtual ‘caddies’ Marc Leishman, 5 x US PGA Tour Winner and Hannah Green, US Womens PGS Champion
We surprised six of Australian golf’s brightest female up-and-coming stars by inviting two Major winners Hannah Green and Danielle Kang to share their experiences on tour, giving the next wave of champion golfers the opportunity to ask how they prepare, handle high pressure situations, and make the next steps in their promising careers during at Bonnie Doon Golf Club.
At each event for the Webex Players Series, we had some of golf and the sporting world’s biggest stars – Geoff Ogilvy, Su Oh, Marcus Fraser, Braith Anasta and Karrie Webb (via Webex), give an intimate sit-down mentor session with junior tournament participants.
The Webex Player Series is the most inclusive sporting event in the world. Featuring world class male and female professionals, with juniors and elite amateurs playing alongside their heroes in the final two rounds in their own dedicated competition, the Webex Players Series provides our future stars with invaluable playing opportunities so they can catapult to the premier international tours.
The inaugural Webex Players Series tournament was TPS Victoria, held at Rosebud Country Club, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, in January 2021. Our second event, TPS Sydney, was played in March at Bonnie Doon Golf Club.
The popularity and support for these types of inclusive events is expanding and so is Webex Players Series with the announcement of the forward event schedule imminent.
