Golf is headed to the Olympics for the first time in 112years and Australia will be proudly represented by PGA Professionals Scott Hendand Marcus Fraser and ALPG players Minjee Lee and Su Oh.
From the men’s side, World Number 81 Scott Hend and World Number 86 Marcus Fraser have booked their tickets to Rio de Janerio.
Hend turned Professional in 1997 after completing his PGA Traineeship at Hyatt Coolum and Nudgee Golf Club. Competing on his home Tour, Hend quickly made a mark by winning his first Professional tournament at the 1999 South Australian PGA Championship. Since then he has recorded a further three Tour victories on Aussie soil.
A truly international player, Hend has recorded victories on four different Tours spaning across seven countries. His most recent win came last month at the Asian Tour’s Queen’s Cup, his second win of 2016, after claiming the Asian Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned Thailand Classic.
Hend is delighted to be able to represent his country at the Olympics.
"Putting on Australian colours and representing the country is going to be a phenomenal experience," said Hend.
"I can’t wait for it to happen. It’s going to be awesome."
Fraser turned Professional in 2002 following a distinguished amateur career. Launching his career in Europe, it didn’t take Fraser long to notch up his first victory winning the Danish Open on the Challenge Tour. He quickly added a further two victories to his resume including his first on the European Tour at the Russian Open.
Since then, Fraser has spent his career competing on the European Tour and at times the Asian Tour, where he has three and two careers victories respectively. Fraser has also recorded one victory on his home tour; the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.
Like Hend, Fraser will head to Rio in winning form having recorded his most recent European Tour victory at the Maybank Championship Malaysia in February.
"To play in the Olympics is a dream come true, obviously with golf being back for the first time in over 100 years it is pretty amazing," said Fraser.
"It’s going to be a great week and I can’t wait to represent our great country."
While much younger, Australia’s female representatives have also already made an impact on the world stage.
World Number 14 Minjee Lee won her second LPGA Tour tournament in April in just her second year as a Professional.
While World Number 41 Su Oh, just overtook Karrie Webb to earn her place in Rio thanks to recent top-10 performances on the LPGA Tour.
The PGA congratulates Australia’s four Professional golfers; Scott Hend, Marcus Fraser, Minjee Lee and Su Oh and wish them the best of luck as they chase gold in Rio.
