The Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series and Ladbrokes Legends Tour combined at RACV Cape Schanck Resort on Wednesday for the RACV Cape Schank Battle where 42 open and 42 Legends players battled it out in stunning conditions on the Mornington Peninsula.
On his way back from injury, Queensland’s Tim Hart was the winner of the open category, firing 6-under 64 to sit atop the leaderboard.
“I have been injured for the last 18 months and I lost the majority of my status, so I decided to come and play the events down here in Melbourne,” said Hart.
“I played well today and I’m happy to get a win this early in the year. I’d like to say thanks to RACV for sponsoring the event.”
Euan Walters and Dale Williamson finished in a tie for second place, just one shot off the lead at 5-under the card.
Lucien Tinkler claimed top honours in the Legends category, winning the event with a round of 4-under 66 over David Fearns in second place at 3-under 67.
“It was a great format to play and I really enjoyed both the course and watching my open partner Dale Williamson play well,” said Tinkler.
“I really enjoyed the format and look forward to returning next year.”
In a different format to most pro-am and Legends tournaments, players from each category were each paired with an amateur in a 4 ball best ball competition where the best amateur on the day secured an amateur spot in the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia’s Victorian PGA Championship later this year.
In the outright Open v Legends battle, the Legends defeated the open players by 2 stableford points at 436 – 434.
The Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series continues in Victoria with events in Rosebud and Heidelberg over the coming days.
