Victorian Lucas Herbert has set himself up for a resurgent second half of the European Tour after another encouraging display at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.

"LucasWith invitations to The Open on offer, Herbert put himself for a late call-up to Royal Portrush to sit inside the top 10 midway through his second round.

In a week of low scores where Austrian Bernd Weisberger edged out Frenchman Benjamin Hebert at the third hole of a playoff, Herbert was well-placed at 9-under through 36 holes but couldn’t keep pace over the weekend, rounds of 72-70 seeing him drop to a tie for 62nd.

The 17.85 Race to Dubai points places Herbert 115th on the Order of Merit, just five places outside the top 110 who retain their cards for the 2020 season.

Coming into the tournament on the back of a 65 in the final round of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, Herbert has made 10 cuts in 14 starts this year and can move forward knowing that if he puts four rounds together he will be in contention for a breakthrough win soon.

No other Aussies qualified for the weekend in Scotland.

On the Challenge Tour in France New Zealand’s Josh Geary continued his consistent season to finish inside the top 20 at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil.

Steven Tiley claimed the title by one stroke from fellow Englishman Richard Bland with Geary firing one of the best rounds of the final day, a 3-under 68 to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 17th.

Aussie Jordan Zunic went the other way on Sunday, dropping 10 spots with a Sunday 73 to be tied for 28th and 70th on the Order of Merit.

Ben Eccles was the only other Australian in the field and missed the cut.
