Playing in the morning field, Peter Wilson has maintained his lead at the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship with a solid although unspectacular round.
This is the first time Wilson is playing the Kalgoorlie Golf Course since he won here back in 2012 and he started with a flurry yesterday firing 8-under 64.
Out early this morning, in chilly conditions, Wilson shot 1-under 71 to be 9-under the card after the first two days.
“I tried to do the same thing, but the speed on my putting wasn’t quite there. Tee to green I played the same, I just didn’t hole putts like I did yesterday,” explained Wilson.
“It was cold and the ball wasn’t going very far. It got windy in the middle of the round, it died out in the end.”
That could be a taste of things to come for the field with strong winds forecasted for the final two days at the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship.
“Round one and round two, the pins were really hard. I think they have done that because the wind is coming up on the weekend, so hopefully they get a bit easier.”
Sitting one shot behind Wilson is Rory Bourke who fired 4-under 68, also in the morning. It was a mixed round for the Victorian who fired seven birdies counter balanced by three bogeys.
Playing in the afternoon field, Leigh McKechnie fired his second consecutive round of 4-under 68 to be T2 with Bourke.
“I played the front-9 quite well in 4-under and then I had my first bogey for the day on the 12th. It was a bit unsettling after playing so solid for one and half days,” said McKechnie, who was quick to recover.
“I got it back on 14 with a good 4 iron to about 12 feet and made birdie. So it settled the ship. Overall I am pretty happy.”
On 7-under the card New South Welshman Matthew Steiger is outright fourth after rounds of 69 and 68.
Rounding out the top-5 on the leaderboard with a two round total of 6-under the card are; Jack Munro (QLD), Josh Younger (VIC), Victorian PGA champion Damien Jordan (QLD) and Vic Open champion Dimitrios Papadatos (NSW).
The second round cut was made at 2-over the card with 53 Professionals and four amateurs making the weekend rounds.
