John Wade has carded a final round of 70 at Twin Waters Golf Club to win the Sunshine Coast Masters by four shots in a runaway victory on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.
Following opening rounds of 65 and 73, the overnight leader continued his consistency to take first place over Peter Senior and Chris Hollingsworth in a tie for second.
Nerves came into play on the final 18 holes of the tournament where Wade, who played alongside fellow overnight leader Peter Senior, knew he needed to produce something special to take the win.
“My opening round of 65 set me up for the win and playing with Peter Senior today I knew I had to grind it out,” Wade said.
It was not all smooth sailing, however, when on the 54th hole his tee shot headed right for the trees.
A fortunate ricochet put the ball back into play, allowing Wade to salvage par and take a meaningful victory on the Sunshine Coast.
Senior’s final round did not play out as the Aussie golfing legend had hoped as he faltered on the back nine for 39 and an eventual 74.
With a final total of 4-under 212 Senior thanked the course staff across both the Twin Waters and Pelican Waters Golf Clubs for a fantastic three rounds of competition.
“What a great three days. Both courses were in excellent condition and a real test of golf.”
Richard Backwell and David Merriman finished in a tie for fourth place at 3-under 213.
Nine players each recorded three rounds totals under the par line of 216, emphasising the ever-improving standard of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.
