It was a day of highlights in the first round of the Car Net Auctions NSW/ACT Trainee Championship at Riverside Oaks Golf Resort.

"DeyenThe Trainees must have been inspired by Jason Day’s PGA
Championship victory as the scoring was low.

Nick Simpson from Monash Golf Club set the pace early and
was 7-under the card with six holes to play.

However a horror three holes, the 14th, 15th,
and 16th, saw him drop three shots to finish his round in the lead
at 4-under 68.

Gosford Trainee Mitchell Ballard is sitting just one shot
behind Sampson as he also took advantage of the ideal scoring conditions.

Defending Champion Deyen Lawson from Victoria was also on
track to go low before three bogeys coming home saw him finish the day on
1-under the card.

The highlight of the day belonged to Dean Meagher who scored
a hole-in-one on the par-3 6th hole on the Bungool course at
Riverside Oaks Resort, which is this week hosting a Professional tournament for
the first time.

The 102 Trainees in the field this week will take a look at
the course located just an hour north of Sydney before the PGA Tour of
Australasia arrives in December for the NSW PGA Championship.

Following the second round the field will be cut to 50
Trainees and ties.
