David Diaz, Russell Swanson and Tim Elliot are joint leaders following the opening round of the Australian Legends Tour Championship.
The trio recorded four under 68’s around the Byron Bay course to sit a shot ahead of Brad Burns and 2016 champion Steven Conran.
The conditions on course didn’t make it easy for the 61 Legends Professionals in the field, with brief showers and a constant south-easterly breeze throughout the day.
Tim Elliot was grateful for a good round following some challenging weeks.
“The results have not been all that bad of late, but my rounds have been real grind which don’t make for the most enjoyable days on course” said Elliot.
“It was nice to play some quality golf out there today.”
Elliott is looking to close the gap on Order of Merit leader Brad Burns this week with only four events remaining on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.
“To be honest, it’s not something that I am really thinking about. Yes, it would be great to win again, but for now it’s all about finishing off what’s been a great start to the week here at Byron Bay.”
Round 2 tees of tomorrow morning at 6:33am.
