When PGA Professional Colin Swatton took Jason Day under his wing at the age of 12 little did he know he would be coaching and mentoring a future Australian Major winner.
Day and Swatton have shared a dynamic partnership for well over a decade after the two met in 1999 at the Kooralbyn International School where Day was a student and Swatton the Head Teaching Professional.
"I lost my Dad at 12, and then met Colin. For him to be able to be with me for my first Major win is very special," said Day.
"The journey we’ve taken together has been a special one and I couldn’t think of anyone who I would want to spend it with other than Col."
"He’s an amazing person, he works very, very, hard and he just wants the best for me regardless of what happens."
Swatton has been a Full Member of the PGA of Australia since 1994 after completing the PGA’s Trainee Program at Murrumbidgee Country Club before moving to Singapore for 12-months to promote high-end golf equipment throughout Asia.
Following an invitation from a fellow PGA Member, Swatton developed, operated and managed the Monterez Golf Academy servicing over 5000 students in South East Asia, while also spending time as golf columnist for one of countries leading newspapers.
Five years later Swatton returned to Australia and was appointed Head Teaching Professional and Director of Golf Instruction at Kooralbyn International School overseeing their Golf Program. When Kooralbyn closed down, Swatton encouraged Day to follow him to the Hills International School Golf Academy.
The pair have been together ever since.
Day was listed at 850 on the Official World Golf Rankings when Swatton started as his caddy in 2006.
Swatton has a strong history coaching a number of Australian Professionals who have had significant wins in their career, including 2014 Australian PGA Championship winner Greg Chalmers and 2014 Price Cutter Charity Championship winner, Cameron Percy. In 2012, Swatton was a finalist for the PGA Teaching Professional of the Year.
