Stolz rockets into Australian PGA Senior Champs lead

Andre Stolz has broken away from the pack with a brilliant second round of 6-under 64 at the 2020 Australian PGA Senior Championship.

After torrential rain forced play to be abandoned halfway through the first round on Thursday morning, play resumed at 10am on Friday at Richmond Golf Club with the second round played on Friday afternoon.

At the conclusion of round one, four PGA Legends crowded the leaderboard with Stolz, Steven Aisbett, Craig Warren and Peter Lonard tied for first place at 3-under 67.

It was Stolz, however, who made the most of stunning afternoon conditions at the PGA Legends Tour premier event with a round of 6-under to take his two-round total to 9-under 131 with one round left to play.

Stolz will look to make the most of a four-stroke lead over Peter Lonard who holds second place at 5-under 135 when the leaders begin round 3 at 11am AEDT on Saturday morning.

“After playing the first six holes in the rain yesterday the main idea was not to lose it and fall apart,” said Stolz on Friday afternoon.

“Then I got onto a hot start this morning and was able to carry that momentum in the second round.”

Having changed putters in the past week, Stolz put on a clinic during the second round, only dropping one shot on the par-4 14th hole.

“I went back to the old faithful this week and it has been all of the difference so far.”

Peter O’Malley completes the leading group having recorded a second round of 2-under 68 to move into a share of third alongside Brad Burns, Craig Warren and Simon Tooman.

A score of 1-under in round two sees Peter Fowler in outright seventh place ahead of the final round.

The first groups will begin the final round of the 2020 Australian PGA Senior Championship at 9:30am from Richmond Golf Club.
