The equation is simple.

Rookie sensation Min Woo Lee has three events to earn the €67,000 that will open the door to unlimited invitations for the remainder of the European Tour season.

Originally intending to spend the majority of 2019 on the Web.com Tour in the United States, Lee has amassed €201,958 in just five starts on the European Tour. A third top-10 finish at this week’s Maybank Championship at Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur would allow him to set a longer and more certain schedule.

Currently 35th in the Race to Dubai standings, Lee could also be eligible for starts following the BMW International Open in June as the highest-ranked player in the Race to Dubai not otherwise exempt. But, the first priority is to continue his superb form in Malaysia.

Tied for 20th in his last start at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, Lee has been extended another invitation to play in the Maybank Championship and is one of 15 Australians in the field along with Kiwis Ryan Fox and Ben Campbell.

Fox’s tie for third at Saujana 12 months ago kick-started his 2018 season and given he has broken through for his maiden European Tour win, risen to a career-high of 66 in the world, finished 11th at the New Zealand Open and married long-time partner Anneke in the past six weeks he returns with nothing but positive vibes running through his veins.

Another riding a wave of confidence is Victorian Zach Murray.

In his first year as a professional Murray has quickly made winning a habit, starting in the Blitz Golf event in Glenelg and then adding his name to an illustrious list of New Zealand Open champions.

With status on the Asian Tour secured at Qualifying School to close 2018, Murray is making his debut in a European Tour event outside of Australia having climbed 502 places courtesy of his NZ Open win to now be ranked 316 in the world.

The 2019 tournament is just the fourth staging of the Maybank Championship on the European Tour with inaugural 2016 champion Marcus Fraser also in the field this week.

That win at Royal Selangor Golf Club broke a winning drought of close to six years and was the third European Tour title of Fraser’s career.

Now focusing his playing schedule in Asia having moved the family back home to Australia, Fraser was tied for 17th at the ISPS HANDA Vic Open and tied for 39th at the New Zealand Open in his most recent start.

The other Australians playing the Maybank Championship this week are Lucas Herbert, Wade Ormsby, Sam Brazel, Scott Hend, Daniel Nisbet, Jason Norris, Todd Sinnott, Travis Smyth, Terry Pilkadaris, Jake McLeod, Jake Higginbottom and Jason Scrivener.
