Sweden’s David Lingmerth is headed down under for the first
time to compete in the Australian PGA Championship.
Making his only appearance of the Australian summer of golf,
Lingmerth will tee up at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast from 3-6
December.
The 28-year-old has forged his career in the US and had a
breakout year on the PGA TOUR in 2015.
He recorded his first victory on the PGA TOUR in June this
year at the Memorial Tournament before recording a tied 12th finish
at the PGA Championship in just his fourth Major appearance.
"I have
always wanted to play in Australia and the Australian PGA comes at a perfect
time in my schedule," said Lingmerth.
"2015 has
been a great season for me and I see the Australian PGA as a springboard for my
2016 season, where I will be looking to accomplish even more and hope to
challenge for a spot on both the European Ryder Cup Team and Swedish Olympic
Team."
Lingmerth becomes the second player ranked inside the top-50
in the world to commit to the Australia’s richest tournament, the Australian
PGA Championship, after Brandt Snedeker also signed on to play.
"We are delighted that David has chosen to compete at the
Australian PGA Championship and that he will experience his
first taste of Australian golf on the Gold Coast," said Brian Thorburn, CEO of
the PGA of Australia.
"With the addition of David to the field, which also
includes Brandt Snedeker, we now have two 2015 PGA TOUR winners both ranked
inside the top-50 players in the world competing at RACV Royal Pines Resort."
"Along with David and Brandt a number of European Tour and
Sunshine Tour players will be heading to the Gold Coast ensuring the depth of
talent on display this year will be the strongest we have had in recent years."
The Australian PGA Championship
will be played at RACV Royal Pines Resort from 3-6 December.
Australia’s richest golf tournament in 2015, the Australian PGA Championship is
being played for AU$1.75million and co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of
Australasia and European Tour.
Tickets for the tournament are now on sale at www.ticketek.com.au with
