The PGA TOUR’s weather hit Honda Classic won’t finish till tomorrow but Marc Leishman already knows he won’t meet his goal for the week.
The Victorian fell out of the world’s top-50 on the back of a missed cut at Riviera, the drop costing him an invite to the WGC event at Doral this week.
But Leishman, who blames his putting for some in different form this season, set himself the goal of a high finish at Honda to move up from 52nd and play his way back into the WGC field.
"It was a shame to fall out of the top-50 last week but this represents a challenge and a chance to get back in and get to Doral, "Leishman told AAP’s Ben Everill before teeing off last week.
"I have hit a lot of good shots but not taken advantage of those on the greens."
Despite a visit to the Scotty Cameron putting studio following Riviera Leishman was below the field average this week in Strokes Gained Putting and also struggled off the tee hitting only 40 per cent of the fairways at PGA National.
Robert Allenby was the only other Australian in the field and also struggled with the difficult conditions in Florida.
Weather caused most of Saturday’s third round to be cancelled and the tournament to go to a Monday finish.
When play was called late Sunday US time Leishman and Allenby were both near the tail of the field with several holes still to play.
