With the mercury barely nudging double digits for most of the day, and strong winds causing a severe chill factor, many players looked to be dressed for the snow rather than golf in round three of the National Futures Championship.

While conditions tipped to favour both international and southern state Trainee Professionals, the scoreboard reflected a different story.

Deyen Lawson highlighted again today why he is currently the highest ranked Australian Trainee coming in to this event.

Pocketing birdies throughout his round, Lawson almost a delivered a clean sheet until picking up a bogey on the 11th to finish 4-under 68 and three shots clear of fellow Victorian, Ryan Laird, heading in to the final round.

Jack Harrison, a firm favourite coming into the tournament, had a disheartening round of 4-over 76 and unable to get his head back in the game after a string of early bogeys during his round.

While the majority of competitors struggled to break even, Queenslander Anna Stanton held firm and maintained her position of 7th with 1-over 217 and moves into the final round one shot ahead of last year’s champion, Taylor Cooper.

Overnight leader Ryan Laird showed early promise turning 5-under par into the 10th, however a disappointing run of bogeys on the back nine including a double bogey on the 15th saw him finish a respectable 2-under 70.

Daniel Morgan again carded a solid even par 72 which places him in strong contention to challenge Lawson on the final day.

With the bureau forecasting light winds tomorrow, the championship prize is still up for the taking.
