After a promising start to the 2015 TOUR season, Matt Jones is confident that his game is showing encouraging signs in his pursuit to secure a big win.
Jones is set to tee off alongside a host of Aussies at The Players Championship in Florida this week and feels his game is near to where it needs to be for a victory.
"I’ve had a few good finishes, I’m probably very close to having a really good finish in one of these tournaments, a win, the game is very close," said Jones.
"I’m starting to tighten it up in the areas I need to especially this week,"
While the course is in outstanding condition, Jones admits it will be a tough week for those in the field.
"You’re going to have to drive the ball great and you’re going to have to chip and put on these greens. They’re going to be rock hard, fast and the rough is going to be thick,"
"It will be tough, because you won’t be able to miss many shots out here this week with how the course is going to be set up,"
"Driving the ball and keeping the ball in play will be important this week, missing the greens in the right spot is going to be important as well,"
Jones has made the cut 11 times from 13 starts in 2015 with his best finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he finished third.
In 2014 Jones won the Shell Houston Open edging out Matt Kuchar in dramatic playoff after starting the final round six shots back and a victory that earned him nearly $1.2 million.
Jones will be grouped with Luke Donald (ENG) and Louis Oosthuizen (RSA) in the first round of The Players Championship.
