Australia’s most successful Japan Tour player has added to an impressive resume with a 14^thTour title at the ANA Open.

Canberra’s Brendan Jones fired a final round of 2-under-par 70 to convert a two shot 54-hole lead into a one shot victory at the Sapporo Golf Club.

Enduring a difficult year featuring just one top-10 finish, the 41-year-old turned things around in emphatic fashion with an opening 66.

He backed that up with rounds of 67-67 to jump to the top of the leaderboard with one round to go and finished things off in style with a birdie at the 71^st hole to open up a one shot cushion.

A regulation par at the last was enough to hold on and Jones is now a 14-time winner on the Japan Tour.

It’s a welcome return to the winner’s circle for Jones who suffered a carer threatening wrist injury in 2013 which required surgery and cost him nearly two full years.

He said prior to this week he felt he had been playing well without finishing things off, his performance this week lifting him to 12^th on the Order of Merit.

While Jones has been a staple on the Japan Tour for a decade and a half it has been Queensland’s Brad Kennedy and New Zealand’s Michael Hendry dominating the Australasian headlines in 2016.

However, Kennedy struggled this week with a T40 finish while Hendry missed his first cut in seven starts after a run of top-5 finishes.

Won Joon Lee (T19) was the next best of the Australians after Jones with Kurt Barnes (T26) also posting a much needed solid performance.

Adam Bland (T52) and Scott Strange (T60) were the last of the Australians to make the cut, Matt Griffin joining Hendry in having the weekend off.
