Mike Harwood showed why he is such a high caliber player finishing on top at this year’s E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour event at Bargara with a dominant score of 10-under over the two days.
One shot behind first round leader Terry Price at the start of the day, Harwood got off to a great start with birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes then backing up with an eagle after holing out from 45 meters on the 4th.
Turning at 4 under after a bogey on the 9th hole, Harwood had another string of birdies on the back nine before another late bogey saw him drop a shot.
"It’s been a positive two days and I’m pleased to get a win here," said Harwood.
"Being able to post some good scores on my early holes really gave me a lot of confidence. It’s good to finish the run of events with a win."
Players were treated to both great weather conditions and a golf course many considered to be one of the best they’ve played over the past five weeks of the QLD Swing.
A large number of spectators took the opportunity to come and witness not only the leaders but also a field that included Rodger Davis, Ossie Moore and Mark Tickle who has had two wins in recent weeks. Tim Elliot was also scoring well on the day equaling Harwood score of 66.
Defending champion Terry Price was generous in his praise of his playing partner and tournament winner.
"He definitely had his game on a different level today and he is the type of player that won’t make many mistakes once he’s in the lead," said Price.
"I was happy enough with my game but just minor errors just didn’t put me in a place to make enough birdies."
The event saw the QLD Swing of the tour come to an end and players will now make their way to their next events. In the case of Harwood, he will be returning overseas to recommence playing on the European Seniors Tour.
