Left handed Victorian James Hartley has
fired a 1-over 73 in cool wintery conditions to win his way into the Australian
PGA Professionals Championship at Hamilton Island in October.
Hartley got his round off on the wrong
foot posting three bogeys on his first three holes before coming home with four
birdies to win the Victorian PGA Professionals Championship by one shot.
"I had an enjoyable day today, a few
hiccups early on, including forgetting my shoes and a few bogies, but it all
worked out in the end," said Harley.
After carding a 2-over 74, Daniel Cromie,
Aaron Cox, Sean Charleston, Sean Crowe, Brock Gillard and Paul Steiner all
finished one shot behind Hartley, and booked their place at Hamilton Island.
Cromie, Head Professional at Whittlesea
took out the Victorian PGA Club Professionals Championship after getting the
better of Gardiners Run Professional, Aaron Cox and Lonsdale Head Professional
Sean Charleston in a playoff.
Cromie’s two putt for par from 35 feet on
the 18th hole, the second extra hole was good enough to get him over the line
for the title. He later said the result topped off a great week, after
the birth of his second child a few days earlier.
Settlers Run provided the players with a
stern test with cool and soft conditions ensuring the course played every part
of its 6500 meters in length. The course was presented in excellent
condition with true fast greens a stand out.
With only 11 spots available on the plane
to Hamilton Island, Ben Bunny, John
Horvarth, Christopher Hynes, Bradley Wilson, Steve Kent and Luke Hickman all
headed out for extra holes to decide the final four spots after shooting a
3-over 75.
Only one playoff hole was
required, as Bunny, Horvath, Hynes and Wilson secured their place in the
Australian PGA Professionals Championship.
The Australian PGA Professionals Championship will be held at the
spectacular Hamilton Island Golf Club on Dent Island from the 1st to the 3rd
October 2016.
