Goggin getting back on track

After a difficult start to the year courtesy of a nagging elbow injury Mathew Goggin is getting his game back on track, the Tasmanian making his first cut of the season in Columbia at the weekend.

After a difficult start to the year courtesy of a nagging elbow injury Mathew Goggin is getting his game back on track, the Tasmanian making his first cut of the season in Columbia at the weekend.

""The 42-year-old five time Web.com Tour winner was forced to withdraw from the first two tournaments of the 2016 season then missed the cut at his following two events.

But in difficult conditions at the Servientrega Championship, Goggin found some form and after opening with a 75 fought his way back into the tournament with a Friday 68.

He continued the good play Saturday with a 3-under 69 to enter the final round T20 and on the fringes of contention.

With conditions remaining difficult Sunday and the Tour opting for a two tee start to ensure the round was complete, Goggin struggled in the conditions to post 75 and fall to T42.

However, after a lean start to the season it will give the Tasmanian a lot of hope as the schedule
becomes more consistent in the coming weeks and the Tour heads back to the mainland US for much of the rest of the season.

Goggin was one of seven Australians to tee up in the fifth event of the Web.com season but was the only one to make the cut as high winds caused havoc with scoring.

Scott Gardiner, Steve Allan, Oliver Goss, Brett Drewitt, Aron Price and Bryden Macpherson all missed the weekend’s play, Allan especially disappointed after opening with a 79.

His Friday 68 saw him get within two shots of playing the weekend and after consistent play in Brazil the
previous week he would have been keen to tee up all four rounds and keep the momentum going.

The secondary Tour now has a week off before heading to Mexico.
