Rhein Gibson has given himself a chance to earn back his PGA TOUR status via the Web.com Tour, after another solid week saw him on the brink of breaking into the top-25 on the money list.

While his play on the top Tour has been less than his best in 2016, Gibson has played some inspired golf on the secondary Tour in recent weeks and a T23 at the Digital Ally Open sees him head to the last two events of the season 32nd on the earnings table.

The top-25 at the end of the regular season are guaranteed status on the PGA TOUR for 2017 and that will be Gibson’s aim over the next two weeks.

Of the Australians playing the Web.com Tour only Gibson and Brett Drewitt seem a chance to achieve top-25 status, Drewitt presently lying 48th.

Oliver Goss is the only other Australian inside the top-100 with Steve Allan, Bryden Macpherson, Mathew Goggin and Peter Lonard all outside that mark.

Goss finished T34 this week while Drewitt was the only other Australian to make the cut, eventually finishing T48.

Steve Allan, Jarrod Lyle, Peter Lonard, Bryden Macpherson and Mathew Goggin all missed the weekend’s action; a result none could afford with only next week’s Price Cutter Charity Championship and the following week’s News Sentinel Open to be played before the field for the Finals Series is set.

The top-75 on the money list are eligible for the Finals Series, which will determine 25 of the 50 cards to be handed out for the 2017 PGA TOUR, while the top-100 retain Web.comTour playing rights.

Those outside that mark will have to return to Q-School if they wish to play the secondary Tour again in 2017.
