Flanagan to kickstart season in Mexico

After an injury stricken season in 2014, Nick Flanagan is hoping to kick start his 2015 season in Mexico this week.

After an injury stricken season in 2014, Nick Flanagan is hoping to kick start his 2015 season in Mexico this week.

"NickAbout the only good thing that happened to an injury
stricken Nick Flanagan on the golf course last year was when he made the cut at
the El Bosque tournament in Mexico and he will be hoping to repeat the dose
this week when he is one of 13 Australians in the Web.com Tour field.

It’s been almost 12 months since the 2003 US Amateur
champion underwent surgery on his left thumb and this week will be his third
start for 2015 playing on a major medical exemption.

It was only two weeks after this event in 2014 Flanagan had
the damaged thumb operated on after missing his fourth cut in five starts to
begin the season.

His comeback thus far has been hampered by flare-ups of the
injury and he is yet to make a cut in his three events to date but will be
hoping for a change this week.

Flanagan is part of a large Australian contingent in the
field this week after no event was scheduled to clash with the Masters last
week.

Also playing in Mexico are Steve Allan, Adam Crawford, Brett
Drewitt, Scott Gardiner, Rhein Gibson, Mathew Goggin, Oliver Goss, Ash Hall,
Bryden Macpherson, James Nitties, Alistair Presnell and Aron Price.

With only three of that group in the top-25 on the money
list, and five in total inside the top-50, good results are required for most
of the Australians to have a chance at earning a PGA TOUR card for next season.

At 5th on the list Mat Goggin is the highest
placed after winning the opening event of the season followed by Steve Allan in
10th and Rhein Gibson in 13th.

They’re followed by two rookies in Oliver Goss and Brett
Drewitt, Goss 33rd in the standings and Drewitt 43rd.

Goss and Drewitt have both been impressive in their first
year on the secondary US Tour, Drewitt taking advantage of a good season on the
PGA TOUR China last year to earn his place in 2015.

It’s been tougher going for some of the more seasoned
campaigners, the likes of Alistair Presnell and Ash Hall yet to make any impact
in 2015.

Hall has made just three cuts in six starts, missing his
last three consecutively, while Presnell is yet to play a weekend in his six
appearances to date.

James Nitties, who posted a top-10 result at this course in
2011, is also in indifferent form this year with three cuts made in five starts
and a best finish of T24 last month in Brazil.

Bronson La’Cassie is listed as an alternate this week.
