James Nitties has run down overnight leader Matthew Millar to share victory in the Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro-Am.

"JamesAfter a scintillating first round, Matt Millar looked to the certain winner thanks his course record equaling 8-under 63 however Nitties had other ideas.

The final round saw many twist and turns with Millar’s overnight lead gone by the end of the front-9. With three bogeys in a row before the turn Millar found himself tied with James Nitties on 6-under the card.

While a further shot back with nine holes to play were Dale Brandt-Richards and Matthew Stieger.

With a strong wind blowing the back-9 was a real test however Nitties stood up to the challenge with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole.

A bogey late in Nitties round saw him rejoined at the top of the leaderboard by Millar who fought back well with a gutsy 1-under on the back-9.

Nitties and Millar sharing the victory on with a tournament total 7 under 135.

“Turning up today I thought we were all playing for second. Matthew’s been in great form with a win earlier in the week so I feel very fortunate to share the win with him,” said Nitties.

“I did get on a roll through the middle of the round with two birdies and an eagle which put me right in the picture.

“It’s great to have played well here on such a great golf course in one of the best pro-am events I’ve ever played.”

While Millar saw his overnight lead evaporate he was still happy to share the victory.

“Unfortunately my putter went cold today. I’m still really happy to have played well and would like to thank everyone involved in the event,” said Millar.

In third was Matthew Stieger who shot consecutive rounds of 68’s for a total of 6-under 136.

Rounding out the top-5 were Dale Brandt-Richards with a total of 4-under 138 and Mitchell Brown with 3-under 139.

The Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro-Am was voted NSW/ACT 36 hole Tournament of the Year in 2016 and continued to deliver an outstanding event

“Without a doubt this is one of the premier events on the schedule and everyone involved should be very proud,” said Peter Welden, NSW/ACT Tournament Coordinator for the PGA of Australia.
