With 10 events of the Challenge Tour season remaining Ben Eccles’s game is trending in the right direction, the Victorian posting his second top 15 finish in his last three events at the Viking Challenge in Norway.
Eccles is playing his first full year outside Australia and after a fast start with a top 10 finish at the Tshwane Open on the main Tour he has struggled to consistently produce his best play.
He followed a T11 result in Finland three weeks ago with a missed cut in Northern Ireland but hit back this week at the rain affected tournament in Norway.
Having played his way to a share of fifth through 36 holes the third round was cancelled and while he will be disappointed with his final round 74 there were plenty of positives to take from the week.
Eccles made 12 birdies and an eagle over the 54 holes and having received a start at this week’s main European Tour event will head to Denmark with some confidence in his game.
Eccles was one of three Australians in the field in Norway alongside Richard Green and Nick Cullen, Green finishing T51 while Cullen missed the cut.
Cullen is the leading Australian on the season long Road to Oman standings where the top 15 will be awarded a European Tour cards at the end of the year.
The South Australian slipped seven places to 37th with his missed cut this week but with 10 events left in the season still has time to climb into the top 15.
