Amateur Curtis Luck knows how to shoot low scores. A few weeks ago he recorded a magical 59, although he doesn’t count it as official, and today he leads the WA Open.

"CurtisCompeting at Royal Fremantle Golf Club, a layout he is
familiar with, Luck fired an opening round of 6-under 66 at the Nexus Risk TSA
Group WA Open.

"I had a pretty good ball striking day, holed a few putts,
but definitely played really well," said Luck.

"I just put it in position and hit good shots so it equalled
the score I had, it was a nice day out there."

"It’s definitely a course I have played a lot. It’s
different now to what it was in my junior days, because I might be hitting some
shorter clubs into some of the holes, but I know the greens pretty well."

Playing alongside his friends Brett Rumford and Jordan Zunic,
Luck was happy to post a good score to kick start his campaign.

"I practice with Brett occasionally at Royal Perth, he is a
great guy and he inspires you to play your best so I was really happy to get
that group today," added Luck.

"I was playing with Jordan as an amateur only 13 months ago,
so to know he has won the New Zealand Open is pretty amazing."

"It’s definitely exciting, it shows you it doesn’t take much
and someone can go out there and have a good week."

While his 6-under today was impressive and highlighted by an
eagle, it could have been even lower if not for a three putt on 18.

"I hit two really good shots into 18 and unfortunately I
actually three putted for par but I’m obviously going to take away the
positives," added Luck.

"I hit a great drive and a great second in there nice and
close."

"I also had a really great tee shot on five which positioned
me in a really good spot for a tap in eagle."

But back to that 59, Luck scored it at his home club,
Cottesloe GC, playing off the ladies tees when he was invited to play by the
ladies in a charity day.

"I wouldn’t classify it as a 59, yes I shot it but it’s just
a bit different," added Luck.

"Cottesloe isn’t a very long course off the ladies tees and
it’s my home course but I am feeling pretty good so hopefully the form can
continue this week and the next few."
