Allan Cooper, Ryan Haller and Paul Williamson have won the 2015 Hinterland Toyota Surfers Paradise Pro Am after firing a 4-under 67 to win by one shot over Paul Donahoo.
It has been five years since Paul Williamson has won on the Sunshine Swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro Am Series, his last win coming in 2010 at the Wantima Pro Am, and extremely happy to get back into the winner’s circle.
"As a PGA Teaching Professional we often ask our students to focus on the basics and I certainly believe this has helped me to play better over recent months," said Williamson
"Setup is key for most golfers and it definitely is for me, I am glad I could put what I preach into effect today."
For Haller, it’s a win that has come at the perfect time as he prepares for next week’s Fiji International.
"Both here at Surfers Paradise and at Natadola Bay, hitting the fairway is a premium and therefore hopefully I can carry my driving form from today into our summer," said Haller.
Cooper, whom has won 14 times on the Sunshine Swing, was pleasantly surprised to be at the top end of the leaderboard and will now head to Sydney where he will compete in several E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour events over the coming weeks.
This was the first event played on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro Am Series at Surfers Paradise Golf Club since 2003, former winners of the tournament including Brett Officer (1989), Ossie Moore (1991) and Brad Kennedy (1996).
The Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing now heads to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club for the Club Car QLD PGA Foursomes Championship on Wednesday, which will see 104 Professionals participate in the state championship where Senior and Trainee Foursomes Champions will also be crowned
