Australians and The Presidents Cup
There was little movement last week among the Australian players vying for spots on the 2017 Presidents Cup International team. Jason Day and Adam Scott remained Nos. 1 and 3 in the standings, with Marc Leishman checking in at No. 8. The top-10 players from the Official World Golf Ranking as of September 4 will make Captain Nick Price’s team. Scott Hend, at No. 18, is the next-highest Australian in the standings. Hend will defend his 2016 Queen’s Cup title this week in Thailand on the Asian Tour.
The 2017 Presidents Cup will be held September 28-October 1 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. The U.S. defeated the International team by one point at the 2015 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
In history, 18 different Australians have played on International teams since The Presidents Cup’s inception in 1994. In 2015, Steven Bowditch, Day, Leishman and Scott represented Australia at the biennial event. Peter Thomson (four times), Greg Norman (twice) and David Graham (once) have all captained the International team.
