Jarrod Lyle’s final hole bogey to miss the cut by one at the Houston Open neatly summed up a disappointing week for the Australian contingent on the PGA TOUR.

Lyle, desperately trying to earn back the TOUR card he was
forced to give up when diagnosed with a second bout of leukemia in 2012, was
4-under for the week when he came to the Golf Club of Houston’s difficult par-4
18^th.

A par would have seen him into the weekend and earning a
much needed cheque but the Victorian made a bogey to fall to 3-under and join
the five other Australians in the field in having the weekend off.

Aaron Baddeley, Steven Bowditch, defending champion Matt
Jones, Robert Allenby and Cameron Percy all missed the cut and a last ditch
chance to earn a spot in this week’s Masters.

With scoring low over the first two rounds the Australians
couldn’t make any headway with Lyle, Baddeley and Bowditch the only ones under
par through 36 holes.

The disappointing week means the Australian Masters
contingent remains at six in stark contrast to 2014 when Steven Bowditch and
Matt Jones won the two lead up events to the year’s first major to take the
final two positions.
