After a hugely successful Open Championship Scott Arnold and Ryan Fox return to the Challenge Tour this week with the opportunity to make a big push towards securing European Tour status for 2016.
Both Fox and Arnold not only made the cut
at St Andrews but fired brilliant final rounds, Fox a 67 and Arnold a 66, and
will start the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge with plenty of confidence.
Fox, who has played three events on the
Challenge Tour with two top-10’s already, sits at 45th on the Order
of Merit while Arnold is at 79th after six starts.
Arnold has played some brilliant golf at
times this year but is yet to put it all together for four rounds.
Last week’s effort at the Old Course could
be just the catalyst the former world number one amateur needs to lift his game
to the next level.
He has shown he has all the tools but
perhaps lacked a bit of self belief after struggling to find his feet as a
Professional.
Finishing T40 at St Andrews, having jumped
38 places up the leaderboard with an equal best of the day 6-under par final
round, is proof positive he has what it takes to mix it with the game’s best.
Fox’s T29 result at St Andrews was the
continuation of some good form he has already displayed this year.
Having gained an invitation to his first
Challenge Tour event last month he finished T5 to earn a second start the
following week where he produced another top-10 finish.
Both Fox and Arnold will be aiming for the
top-15 on the Order of Merit by year’s end, which is the number of players
automatically promoted to the main Tour.
Also teeing up and in good form is Geoff
Drakeford who finished second last week with some extremely good play.
The big hitting Victorian shot brilliant
weekend rounds of 62-64 to punch into outright second place and now sits 32nd
on the Order of Merit.
