Eight Australians and two Kiwis will tee it up in the second event of the PGA TOUR Series-China season after Corey Hale and Aaron Wilkin earned a place in the field through Monday qualifying.

Starting Thursday at the Sanya Yalong Bay Golf Club on the picturesque Hainan Island, the Sanya Championship makes its debut on the China Tour where Charlie Dann and Chris Wood will be hoping to build on their top-10 finishes in last week’s season opener.

With only limited status, Hale and Wilkin were forced to attend qualifying on Monday in order to secure a start, finishing second and third respectively to ensure they will be there on Thursday morning.

For Hale, it is a chance to bounce back after a disappointing opening round saw him miss the cut at the Chongqing Championship a week ago.

Six dropped shots in the space of three holes to round out his front nine in Round 1 made life difficult for the 21-year-old Novocastrian but after signing for an 82 showed terrific resolve to shoot 2-under 71 in Round 2.

China Tour regular Max McCardle also has a strong base to build from after logging a top-20 finish last week as does Victorian Bryden Macpherson, who was tied for 13th at the Chongqing Championship.

Joining them in the field are James Marchesani, Kevin Yuan and Kiwi pair Ryan Chisnall and Luke Toomey.

The Asian Tour moves to Bangladesh this week for the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open where Terry Pilkadaris headlines a group of five Australians at Kurmitola Golf Club.

Travis Smyth is the only one of the Australian contingent who played at Kurmitola in the corresponding event last year but missed the cut on the number with rounds of 76-69.

Daniel Fox, Jack Munro and Maverick Antcliff are the other Aussies guaranteed a start in the tournament that starts on Wednesday.
