With good memories and a healthy body John Senden might be the man to watch this week as seven Australians tee up in the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship in Florida.

Senden has twice finished runner-up on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook, the venue for this week’s event, and says he is finally getting back to full strength after suffering a rib injury at the end of 2012.

Always one of the best ball strikers on the American circuit, Senden had fallen all the way to 80th in that category last year after spending several years inside the top-10.

In 2014 he currently ranks 22nd and told AAP’s Ben Everill this week he felt he was on the right track.

"Bad habits crept in with the body last year but we ironed it out late last year in Australia and this year, while not brilliant, has been better and I feel like I am on the edge of some really good stuff," he said.

While Senden was the pick of the records at this event Marc Leishman, the highest ranked Australian in the field, will be looking to make up for a poor finish to his first round match at the WGC Matchplay where he lost in extra time to Sergio Garcia.

That was the last time Leishman teed up and after having control of the match early played poorly over the closing holes to lose to the Spaniard.

The Victorian had a terrific start to 2014 with back to back top-5 finishes in January and while not showing that form since will be fresh after a three week layoff.

Steven Bowditch, Robert Allenby, Aaron Baddeley, Stuart Appleby and Geoff Ogilvy are the others in the field, with Adam Scott and Jason Day both electing to skip the event to concentrate on tournaments closer to the Masters.
