Boo Weekley is famous in Australia and around the world for his outgoing personality both on and off the golf course, often highlighted by his love of hunting, fishing and all things game.
There is of course, a serious side to Boo when it comes to the business of his golf game, and naturally for any sportsman to be at the top of his sport there must be a drive and dedication beyond the average person’s.
For Boo, his success comes in the form of work. His game is his job and he has a routine and administration like any other job.
"It’s just another day, another day at the office." said Weekley
"Every day I might not have my best game but at least every day I’m thankful that I’m able to play this game and play at the level I play it."
Speaking from the Australian PGA Championship following his clubhouse leading first round of 6-under the card, Boo spoke of how he prepares for an event and it is not just getting his eye in by way of hunting some targets.
"I ain’t got it with me but I’ve got it written down on some paper that I kind of keep notes for myself of what I feel and how I feel when I’m on the golf course and off the golf course." said Weekley.
"I kind of sit down and go back through all my old stuff that I keep track off and I just look at it and say, alright, I played good at this tournament but I haven’t succeeded yet enough to get myself in the top 10."
"Where have I messed up at, and that’s what I kind of go back through my notes, so when I go back out and play my practice rounds the following year, I kind of like here we go."
Without notes to reflect on, Weekley’s game plan for playing in Australia for the first time was to go out there and make the top-20 for each of the events he played.
So far, he has finished T15 in both the Australian Masters and Australian Open. His game is going to plan.
