Australia’s richest one day Legends Pro-Am was held at Killara Golf Club today and it was Lyndsay Stephen from Western Australia and defending champion Simon Jagot from Sydney who tied for the title with a superb round of one under-par71.

""The pair both played in the afternoon field and with firming greens and increasing afternoon winds, both held off a determined chasing group of five players at even-par including Queensland’s Terry Price and Russell Swanson who took out the first event of the year at Cromer on Tuesday.

The event honours one of Australian golf’s great names in David Mercer who was the head professional at Killara for 44 years and coached several legends of the game including Legends Tour player Rodger Davis.

The $50,000 purse enticed the likes of Wayne Grady, Peter Fowler, Mike Harwood and 2014 E-Z-GO Legends Tour Order of Merit winner Tim Elliot to take part in the event which was played in splendid Summer conditions on a faultless layout presented by Killara superintendent Ryan Fury.

It was another memorable outing at Killara for Stephen who won the Australian Senior PGA back in 2010 at the same venue and says Killara will always be a special place.

Jagot continues to shine on the Legends Tour after a successful rookie season in 2014, the win is now the third of his career on the prestigious legends circuit and the win catapults both Jagot and Stephen to the top of the order of merit after the opening week of play.

"The course was sensational and the entire feel here at Killara is really second to none" said Jagot.

Killara General Manager David Gazzoli expressed the clubs delight in hosting the event.

"Killara is a proud club with a rich history and it was a wonderful day for all involved including our members who were thrilled to play alongside the legends of the game" said Gazzoli.

Following a impressive start to the year at the FUSO Trucks and Buses Cromer Pro-Am on Tuesday, Peter Fowler could not back up his strong start, carding a two-over-par 74 to finish in a tie for 16th place.

Killara Head PGA Professional and Legends Tour player Greg Hohnen also commented on the success of the event.

"Killara Golf Club has something very historic with the PGA as they have only two Head Professionals in 62 years.

"Also David (Mercer) is one of the few PGA members who has been given life membership of his golf club.

"It has been an absolute honour for me to run this event because we all know what the Mercer family have done for the game and this great club" added Hohnen who managed a top 30 finish in the event himself.

The Legends Tour heads to the apple isle next week for the annual Tasmanian Legends series starting on Friday 30th with the Claremont Legends Pro-Am.
