Goss looking to build on good start

Only a final round 74 stood between rookie Oliver Goss and a top 10 finish at his first Web.com event last week in Panama and the 20-year-old will be looking to build on that start this week.

Only a final round 74 stood between rookie Oliver Goss and a top 10 finish at his first Web.com event last week in Panama and the 20-year-old will be looking to build on that start this week.

Mathew Goggin rightly grabbed all the attention for his win in the event but Goss’ T12 finish is also impressive in his first full year as a Professional.

Goss entered the final round in a share of 6th position and despite slipping down the leader board with his over par Sunday effort it was an excellent result in his first event as a member of the Tour.

"" The former standout amateur is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the game and will tee up in Colombia this week with plenty of confidence and among the players to watch.

Another Web.com rookie to post a good result last week was Rhein Gibson whose final round 66 pushed him inside the top 10.

Gibson, who is listed under an American flag on the PGA Tour’s website, has marked himself as a player to watch after performing well in Australia over the summer and also finishing 4th at the Web.com Q-School.

Goss, Goggin and Gibson will be among 14 Australians in the second leg of the Tour’s South American swing as the race to finish in the top 25 money winners, and earn a PGA TOUR card at the end of the season, begins in earnest.

While no doubt riding a wave of confidence after a stellar performance last week Goggin will need to overcome fatigue if he is to contend again.

Also in the field are Alistair Presnell, Ash Hall, Scott Gardiner, Adam Crawford, James Nitties, Aron Price, Bronson La’Cassie, Steve Allan, Brett Drewitt, Rod Pampling and Bryden MacPherson.

Ash Hall and Alistair Presnell shared top Australian honours at last year’s rain shortened event but at T29 neither were in genuine contention.
