Bourke wins South West Open

Victorian tour rookie Rory Bourke has come from two shots behind to capture his first win as a professional on the WA/NT PGA Choice Hotels Pro-Am series taking out the South West Open.

Victorian tour rookie Rory Bourke has come from two shots behind to capture his first win as a professional on the WA/NT PGA Choice Hotels Pro-Am series taking out the South West Open.

Bourke proved a model of consistency across the three rounds at Bunbury Golf Club firing scores of 68, 68, 71 for a total of 207 and 9-under.

In its 67th year the historic South West Open proved a tough test on the final day with gusting winds and lightning fast greens.

After his win Bourke mentioned, "This is a fantastic event, the golf course, the members and the entire facility was right behind this event, it’s a special place to have my first win, I couldn’t be happier."

Amateur Ben Seward from Cottesloe Golf Club pushed Bourke the entire day, eventually fading to runner up on 209 and 7-under.

Perennial crowd favourite Jason Norris, who was competing in his 17th South West Open as a professional, also played his way into contention throughout the day firing a consistent 70 and 2-under in the final round.

For the first time this year female amateurs and professionals alike were offered special invitations into the event and they didn’t disappoint.

Golf WA State Team captain Hayley Bettencourt fired the low last round of the tournament with a 3-under 69  to finish a very respectable 9th overall on 215 and 1-under for the tournament.
