In a story book ending to the Mitchell & Brown Spalding Park Open, Mitchell A. Brown from New South Wales has had his first big win in five years.
Starting the day with a
two shot lead Brown struggled in tough conditions to keep his round together.
With some pivotal up and
downs across the closing stretch, Brown posted 1-under 71 to set the new tournament scoring record
at 14-under 202.
In its 42nd year
the Spalding Park Open has proven to be more popular than ever with a stellar
cast of Professional
providing plenty of action on course.
Brown’s script writers
could see the writing on the wall after he opened with 9-under 63 in the first round on Friday.
After that the target was
set and the following characters set their sights on chasing him down.
Max McCardle (SA) finished
in second place on 10-under 206 and Aaron Pike (QLD) also provided the crowd
with some early entertainment with a hot start through nine holes. Pike
eventually finished in outright third on 9-under 207.
The WA/NT swing of the Choice
Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series now heads north to Port Hedland.
