After five straight pars to begin his Champions Tour career the rust showed in Craig Parry’s game with a quadruple bogey eight at his sixth hole but it was the only lowlight in a credible debut on the over 50s circuit.

The mistake saw Parry eventually sign for an opening 4-over-par 76 but it was his only over par round at the Allianz Championship, the highlight a 5-under 67 on day two.

Parry, who turned 50 last month, earns status to the lucrative Champions Tour as a multiple past winner on the PGA TOUR and said last week he’s enthused about playing competitively again.

That showed in round two with some vintage play from the Australian legend who peeled off seven birdies against two bogies in his 5-under effort to climb back into the top-40.

An uneventful even par third round capped a productive week for the 2007 Australian Open champion, Parry eventually finishing T38.

He will tee up again next week at the Chubb Classic and will be better for having some tournament golf under his belt.
