The 2016 Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic has been full of surprises and the
final round was no different, with 21 year old Jack Williams coming from three
shots behind to claim a one shot victory.

Williams shot
the equal low-round for the week, a 4-under 67 to finish at 3-under the card
for the tournament.

Fellow South
Australian Jason Norris finished one shot behind Williams in second position.

New South
Welshman Alex Edge had one of his best finishes of the season, his closing
round of 3-under 68, good enough for third place.

In his rookie
season as a Professional, Williams was delighted with his win in Cairns.

"I had a
really tough start to the year. A wrist injury set my preparations back a
little so I wasn’t expecting much this week," said Williams.

"Winning my
first ever tournament as a Pro is something I will always remember, I’m really
happy it was here in Cairns."

"My parents
have been here with me, to win with them watching has made the week even more
special."

Paradise
Palms challenged the Pros all week but Williams was happy to finally have the
upper hand on the demanding layout.

"Paradise
Palms is a really challenging layout, especially for someone of my length. Making
birdies on my final two holes to win by one was pretty cool."

While the Pros
who regularly compete on the PGA Pro-Am Series made up a number of places
inside the top-10, E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour player Lucien Tinkler had a strong finish
to be the leading player from the over-50’s circuit.

Tinkler
opened the tournament with a 78 but his closing rounds of 69, 70 ensured he
recorded a top-10 finish in the unique mixed tournament.

Professionals will now enjoy a few days off before making their
way down the coast for the Townsville Pro-Am.

Not played since 2013, the Townsville Golf Club which has
undergone redevelopment over recent years and will be keen to showcase the new
holes in play, before construction starts on completion of the new Townsville
layout.
