Adam Scott’s composed round three has thrust him in to contention for a second Green Jacket at The Masters this week.
Starting from even par this morning, Scott’s round was blemish free and with three birdies he finished 3-under par with 69 and holds outright seventh heading in to tomorrows decider.
The clear conditions allowed for many more birdie opportunities than the previous two rounds, particularly for 2015 Champion Jordan Spieth.
At one stage of the tournament, the American was 10 shots off the pace, a fired up Spieth took to the Augusta layout like a duck to water and is now just two shots back on 4-under par.
Sergio Garcia and Scott’s playing partner Justin Rose share the lead and will tee off together tomorrow at 6-under par, Rickie Fowler holds outright third at 5-under.
Jason Day was first to get moving in round three and drastically turned his game around, setting the tone for the day with 3-under 69 and jumping up the leaderboard on 3-over.
“I think that I feel like I actually I can actually play golf again, which is great, when I play like that,” Day said post round three.
“I kind of let things go a little bit in the middle part of my round with not really capitalizing on the opportunities I had, 7 and 8 especially.
“But for the most part, birdieing 12 through 15 was pretty good.”
While he has a mountain of work ahead of him, Day said you can never say never come Sunday at Augusta.
“I got to shoot a really good one tomorrow, but once again, anything can happen on a Sunday at Augusta. Guys can either melt down or guys can come from behind and win big.
“So just got to try and do the best job I can and hopefully if I can put everything together give it a good shot.
“But once again, the first two days kind of put me out of it and today was a good round to get myself kind of back to good form.”
Curtis Luck continues to perform admirably in his first Major, he shot 3-over and is currently T47 on 9-over par.
Luck no doubt has one eye on leading amateur Stewart Hagestad who is just four strokes the better of the West Australian on 5-over par.
Marc Leishman had a round to forget at Augusta, he was steady until a triple bogey on 15 followed by bogeys on 17 and 18 had him finish 6-over 78 and sits alongside Luck in T47.
Adam Scott tee’s off with South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel at 2:15pm local time, 4:15am Monday morning AEST.
