In just his second start as a European Tour member in 2017 Sam Brazel missed the cut by a single stroke at the Qatar Masters.
A double bogey at the Doha Golf Club’s eighth hole on day one was the obvious culprit, Brazel unable to overcome an opening 74 despite notching six birdies on day two on his way to a 3-under 69.
But it is a more experienced and mature Brazel who takes his place in this week’s field and after some flashes of brilliance in Oman last week he will bring plenty of confidence to the first tee.
Brazel has been quietly building an impressive 2018 season and trails only UBS Hong Kong Open winner Wade Ormsby as the top Australasian on the Race to Dubai rankings.
He has missed just one cut in six starts and his T16 last week is his best finish for the year to date.
Brazel is one of five Australasians teeing up in Qatar with Scott Hend, Jason Scrivener, Adam Bland and New Zealand’s Josh Geary also in the field.
Bland is making the most of his high ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit finish in 2017 with yet another start this week a reward for that achievement.
The South Australian leftie makes his third European start for the season and after a disappointing opening round 80 last week in Oman will be motivated in Qatar.
Both Bland and Geary make their debut appearances at this venue while Scott Hend and Jason Scrivener are return visitors.
Hend makes his fourth appearance after two missed cuts and a T60 last year while Scrivener is in the field for the second time having failed to qualify for the weekend on debut in 2017.
