The first event of the 2018 PGA TOUR Series China is in the record books and with low scoring the order of the day Sydney’s Kevin Yuan took top Australasian honours at the Chengdu Championship.
Yuan shot 71-69-68-70 to finish 10-under for the 72 holes, the only Australasian to reach double digits under par but still 10 shots from the winning total of American Jeffrey Kang.
One of 12 players from this part of the world to tee up, Yuan was one of nine to play the weekend but the only one to finish in the top-20.
Yuan was T17, Corey Hale next best at 8-under and T21 alongside New Zealand’s Campbell Rawson.
Sean Underwood (T34), Max McCardle and David Lutterus (T42), Peter Martin (T49), James Marchesani (T54) and DJ Loypur (60th) were the others to make the cut with Monday qualifier Michael Pearce, Andrew Schonewille and Sam Earl missing out.
The PGA Tour Series China will play 14 events in 2018, each with a minimum purse of $1.5 million Yuan (approximately AU$300,000).
The first eight events were confirmed last week, two to be played this month with two in May, two in June and two in July.
The top-5 players on the money list at the end of the season will earn access to the Web.com Tour in 2019 with the money winner earning a full exemption.
