Bransdon starts strong

An impressive final round has seen David Bransdon jump up the leaderboard and post a top-15 finish in a strong start to the Japan Tour’s domestic season.

An impressive final round has seen David Bransdon jump up the leaderboard and post a top-15 finish in a strong start to the Japan Tour’s domestic season.

""The 44-year-old posted a final round of 2-under in difficult conditions at the Token Homemate Cup to bypass 14 players and share 14th at the Token Tado Country Club in Nagoya.

A three-putt double bogey at the 14th hole on Sunday was Bransdon’s only final round blemish, his result moving him to 30th on the money list through three events.

The tournament was the first for the 2018 season to be played on Japanese soil after co-sanctioned events at both the Singapore and Myanmar Opens earlier in the year.

Bransdon was the best of the nine Australasians to tee up in the event, Matt Griffin next best at 2-under and T23 after a final round 74.

Griffin will be disappointed with his final round score after a scintillating 65 on Saturday got him within touching distance of the top-10.

Brendan Jones was steady in finishing 1-under for the week and T31, one shot ahead of Michael Hendry who snuck into the top-40 at even par.

Anthony Quayle, who earned his card for the 2018 season at last year’s Q-School, opened with an impressive 68 to be inside the top-15 but struggled with over par scores in each of the final three rounds.

Won Joon Lee was the last of the Australasians to make the cut but a pair of weekend 75’s saw him slip to T61 for the week.

Andew Evans, a Q-School graduate like Quayle, missed the cut by a single stroke after three back-9bogeys on Friday while Todd Sinnot, Scott Strange and Aaron Wilkin also missed the weekend.
