With the Rockhampton golfing public out in force, Lindsay Wilson has put on a show throughout today’s final round to claim the 2016 Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am.

Wilson finished on a 20 under par total to win by two shots from Adam Stephens, who made an unbelievable up and down at the back of the final green to avoid finishing in a share for second place.

Starting the day two shots behind his playing partner in Stephens, Wilson came out of the blocks early with his intentions clear from the opening hole.

Birdies at his opening two holes, were followed by further birdies at the 4th and 8th giving Wilson the outright lead with only nine holes remaining.

Wilson was not in any mood to relinquish his lead and although having to settle for seven consecutive pars on his back-9, his lone birdie at the 17th gave him a three shot cushion with only one to play.

A closing par for Wilson not only secured his maiden win on the PGA Pro-Am Series (Sunshine Swing), but also has him now as one of the favourites heading into the Yeppoon Golf Classic next week.

"It has been an incredible week, probably one of the best ball striking weeks of my career," said Wilson.

"The fog has no doubt played its part this week, but that’s all part of our game and something you need to overcome if you want to become successful."

"It has been a great rookie year thus far and although there have been some steep learning curves, I am really starting to enjoy my life on Tour."

"My focus will now move to Yeppoon, as I look to take my winning formula from this week into another big event on the Sunshine Swing."

Professionals will now move to the Capricorn Coast for the $55,000 JRT/TAG Yeppoon Golf Classic. Rory Bourke is back to defend his title from last year, with the tournament set to tee off on Wednesday.
