Kiwi left-hander Tim Wilkinson is within reach of a return to the PGA TOUR in 2020 after coming within centimetres of claiming the LECOM Health Challenge on the Korn Ferry Tour in New York.

After Ryan Brehm made double bogey on the final hole of the tournament Wilkinson had a putt to win on the 72nd hole but his putt from 20 feet slid just left of the hole.

The pair then headed back down the par-5 18th hole to commence the playoff with Brehm’s birdie consigning Wilkinson to a runner-up finish, his fourth top-10 result of the year and equal to his best finish on the US secondary tour in six years.

Starting the final round on top of the leaderboard, Wilkinson didn’t put a foot wrong with a bogey free final round of 3-under 69, Brehm drawing level with a 4-under 68 despite his two dropped shots on the closing hole.

With just five missed cuts in 17 events coming into he LECOM Health Challenge Wilkinson was just outside the top 25 in 33rd position on the moneylist, his cheque for $US64,800 rocketing him into 19th with just five events until the Korn Ferry Finals.

New South Welshman Jamie Arnold kept his PGA TOUR promotion hopes alive with a tie for sixth that propelled him 18 places up the leaderboard into 46th on the Order of Merit with Harrison Endycott completing his maiden Korn Ferry start with a 4-under 68 to be tied for 49th.

With rounds of 68-65 to begin the 3M Open Curtis Luck was on track to add some valuable FedEx Cup points to his tally but fell away over the course of the weekend to finish tied for 58th.

With his 50th birthday just on the horizon Rod Pampling further emphasised that he’ll be competitive on the Champions Tour with rounds of 70-69-68-68 to be the pick of the Aussies in a tie for 56th as 20-year-old phenom Matthew Wolff claimed his maiden PGA TOUR title.

It was a disappointing week for Jason Day who dropped five shots in two holes to end the week at 5-under par.

A triple bogey on the 10th hole of his second round meant that Day needed to birdie his final three holes to make the cut and then a 2-under 69 third round was soured by a double-bogey 7 at the par-5 18th hole.
