Harwood continues top form at PGA Seniors Championship


Michael Harwood has won the Shepparton BMW Black Bull Victorian PGA Seniors Championship at Black Bull Golf Club in Yarrawonga after two days of highly competitive golf.

"Michael80 Ladbrokes Legends Tour players teed it up in the first round in perfect conditions with an immaculately presented golf course making for some hot scoring among the field.

With 22 players breaking the par, Brad Burns and Mike Harwood both carded an impressive 8-under 64 to stake their claim early.

Harwood’s strong form was evident, recording 10 pars and eight birdies in the opening round.

Day two featured showery and overcast conditions however an electrical storm, which delayed play, did not deter those in the morning round as Terry Price returned to form carding 68 for a two round total of 142.

It was Victorian Richard Cooney, however, who shot the round of the morning at 5-under 67 for a total of 140.

The weather held for favourites Peter Fowler and Peter Senior, shooting under par and taking the final round down to the last hole for the final group.

Mike Harwood held a one shot lead over Brad Burns on the short par-5, where both players were able to find the green in two shots. Harwood lagged to a couple of feet; however Burns’ attempt to tie slid past and left Harwood a short tap in to win.

His second round of 68 gave him a two round total of 12-under 132 to hold a two-shot win over Burns.

Thanking the Black Bull Golf Club and Shepparton BMW for their support of the Tour, Harwood emphasised that the tour of northern Victoria is a favourite for the Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour field that next travels to Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort for the Yarrawonga Mulwala Resort Victorian Senior Open.
