Queensland’s Rick Coleman has put on a dominant display of golf at the Abbot Point Operations Bowen Pro-Am to win the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series event by three shots.
Claiming his first win in his home state, Coleman’s round of 6-under 64 included five birdies, an eagle and just one bogey in challenging conditions at Bowen Golf Club where winds batted the course throughout the day.
The Brisbane-based professional tied in the trip to Bowen with a family visit, making the win that little bit more special.
“My grandfather lives up here, so I’ve visited Bowen many times but never played golf here,” said Coleman.
“My grandfather hasn’t been well of late, so it’s great to get a win here for him.
“The course was in fantastic condition and some of the views are spectacular. It makes it difficult to concentrate on golf,” joked Coleman.
“I’m thrilled to get the win here today; it will give me a lot of confidence heading into the next six weeks of pro-ams here in Queensland.”
Dane McArdle secured outright second place with a round of 3-under 67, one shot ahead of Samuel Rawlings who completed the event in third place at 2-under the card.
The Bowen Golf Club made a welcomed return to the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series schedule in 2019 following a 24 year absence, with players praising the course conditions and club for a great event.
Kick-starting the Queensland swing of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series, the tour next moves to Proserpine Golf Club for the Whitsunday Green Proserpine Pro-Am.
