The Tin Can Bay Pro-Am supported by the Gympie Regional Council made a welcome return to the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series schedule following a 24-year absence, where New South Welshman Justin Warren claimed a convincing three-shot win over an experienced field.

Heavy conditions presented for the 33 professionals at the Tin Can Bay Country Club after a deluge of rain hit the region prior to the tournament.

Warren, however, was not perturbed by the heavy on course conditions, instead making the most of the soft greens to fire a career-best 10-under 62.

“This is my first time seeing the course and I was really impressed with the layout,” Warren.

“The greens were really soft on course making the ball spin a lot on the approach shots, this was difficult to control at times especially in the wind.

“I played really well out there especially on the back-9 where I hit a knockdown pitching wedge from 123 metres for eagle on the par-4, 14^th hole.”

Finishing in a tie for second position were Jack Wilson and Chris Wood, each firing a round of 7-under 65.

“I played well today considering it was my first visit to the course,” said Wood.

“I made an eagle on the par-5 8^th hole, which was helpful but overall I just putted well.

“The greens staff have done a great job in preparing the course, it was awesome to play on.”

Kevin Conlong and Luke Paroz rounded out the top five, tied for fourth position at 6-under the card.

The next stop on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series is the Maryborough Golf Club on Friday 28 June for the Carriers Arms Hotel-Motel Pro-Am.
