The Ulton, Lindsay Australia & Kens Plumbing Plus Bargara Legends Pro-Am is the second of 23 Ladbrokes Legends Tour tournaments being staged in Queensland over the next six weeks.

After finishing fifth in the first event, Backwell enjoyed the ultimate result in the second event, taking a two-shot victory at Bargara Golf Course.

Starting the day one behind overnight leaders Paul Dalgleish and Chris Hollingsworth, Backwell had a great start with a birdie on his opening hole.

He then strung together a bunch of pars before chipping in for an eagle on the 8th hole. A bogey on the 9th was a minor setback for Backwell who went on to pick up birdies on 10 and 15 before another bogey on the 17th.

“What a great event. The members I played with were great and it was great to see the spectators out there following who were very encouraging,” said Backwell.

“The key to my victory was my chipping and putting as around here the greens are quite small and without a solid short game you just cannot contend.”

It was an extra special win for Backwell as his first-ever golf coach some 40 years ago, John Victorsen, was on hand to witness the victory as he was on duty overseeing the Pro-Am for resident Bargara Head Golf Professional Phil Curd, who is overseas at present.

The overnight leaders couldn’t quite keep pace in round twol with Dalgleish (72) and Hollingsworth (72) both finishing in a tie for second at 5-under par.

A further shot back was Richard Gilkey who has continued his consistent form with a second round of 68 to finish at 4-under the card.

The Ladbrokes Legends Tour now heads south to Hervey Bay on Saturday 20 July for the Kerry Campbell Homes Fraser Coast Classic.

""Senior finished at 8-under par, finishing two shots ahead of Power, who unfortunately couldn’t make up the three dropped shots on his outward nine.

This makes it three wins in a row for Senior at Bargara after Mike Harwood won the inaugural event in 2015.

“I really had it going today and although it’s disappointing not to have been able to finish off the round it’s nice to secure another win here at Bargara,” said Senior.

“My wife June and I really love coming back to each year. The people are brilliant and for some reason, I just seem to play well around this course.

“Tod and I had a really enjoyed each other’s company today and it was nice to see a good group of spectators out on course. This is undoubtedly one of the most popular spots on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour we play, so hopefully, we will continue to be invited back for many years to come.”

Professionals will now make their way down the coast to Hervey Bay for the Kerry Campbell Homes Fraser Coast Legends Classic which tees off on Saturday.
