Jones looking to end 2017 with a bang

Buoyed by a stunning final round to storm into second place at last week’s Casio world Open Brendan Jones will like his chances of claiming a second Nippon Series JT Cup at the season ending tournament in Japan this week.

""Jones claimed the title a decade ago and with just 30 players in the field at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club he will be among the favourites when play gets underway Thursday.

Despite just three top 10 finishes this season Jones has been in decent form in recent weeks and the opportunity to claim a 15th Tour title will be high on his list.

Jones is one of three Australians to earn a start this week, Brad Kennedy making his fifth start and Todd Sinnott his first.

Kennedy has had little success at the tournament with a best finish of T14 in his first appearance in 2012 though his form this year has been solid.

Sinnott has split his time between the Asian and Japan Tours in 2017 after his win at the Myanmar Open in January though hasn’t played since the Bridgestone Open last month.

In other Japan Tour news, the PGA incorrectly reported in Monday’s Casio Open wrap story that David Bransdon had lost full playing privileges for 2018 after missing the cut.

In fact, Bransdon will be eligible to play a full schedule on the Japan Golf Tour next year despite finishing outside the top-75 automatic qualifiers on the money list.

While the top-75 retain privileges, if there are players within that number who didn’t play the minimum number of tournaments they are removed from calculations.

Up to 10 players can be taken off the list and with Bransdon finishing just one place outside the 75 he is, in fact, assured of playing again next year.

Apologies to David for the initial error and congratulations on maintaining a place on the world’s third richest circuit.
