Mathew Goggin withdrew for the second week in a row and only two players made the cut in a disappointing week for the Australians at the Web.com Tour’s Colombia Championship.
Goggin, who pulled out after just eight holes of his title defence in Panama last week, completed 18 holes this week but a 5-over 76 suggested the elbow problem which forced him out last week isn’t yet completely healed.
The Tasmanian started well with a birdie at the first but it was obvious things weren’t right when he posted two bogies and two doubles before the turn.
While Goggin was battling Brett Drewitt got off to a flying start with an opening 66 to be part of an eight way tie for second after the first round.
He and Oliver Goss were the only two of the seven strong contingent to break 70 on day one, Goss signing for a 68 to be in the top-20.
Scott Gardiner, Bryden Macpherson, Peter Lonard and Steve Allan all shot even par or worse and with the cut coming at 1-under the next day they were always going to struggle.
Only Goss and Drewitt survived the 36-hole cut but both shot over par Saturday to fall out of contention, Drewitt signing for a 4-over 75 and Goss a 3-over 74.
Drewitt took top honours Sunday with a final round 70 to finish T38 while Goss battled to a 73 and fell to T53.
